While some musicians are almost-universally praised and have the power to change people’s lives for the better, there are also big names in the music industry that are constantly dissed and dismissed by the general public.

Success doesn’t necessarily mean people like you, and these 21 musicians know best what it’s like to be strongly disliked, to say the least. In order to be completely fair, we’ve also explored the reasons behind all the negativity and hatred, as well as the effects their questionable behavior has had on their careers. Without further ado, here are the most hated music stars of all times.

1. Chris Brown

Chris Brown is, without a doubt, one of the most talked-about contemporary musicians, but he has mostly received media attention for all the wrong reasons. Back in 2009, he beat up his then-girlfriend Rihanna the night before the Grammys and her bruised photos went viral, leaving the abusive singer with haters worldwide.

Although he issued an apology, the overall impression was that Brown didn’t really feel sorry for his abusive behavior. When he was asked about his attack on Rihanna on the Good Morning America a couple of year back, Brown had a violent fit and threw objects all around the place. Talk about redemption.

He won a Grammy in 2012, thanked God for his renewed career, and then took to Twitter to argue with his critics. Basically, he believed he should be forgiven for his obnoxious behavior because he won a Grammy award. Sorry to break it to you, Brown, but that’s not how the world works.
