25 Amazing ‘80s Albums Everyone Loves

2. X – Los Angeles

The American punk rock band X’s debut album Los Angeles is deservingly on our list since it had a huge impact on ‘80s music. They have released seven albums and Rolling Stone magazine ranked two of them, Los Angeles and Wild Gift, among the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Additionally, Los Angeles’ title tract is included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.

Vocalist Exene Cervenka and vocalist/bassist John Doe relocated to Los Angeles and their amazement with the city inspired them to write the lyrics for the album:

Any time you’re twenty years old and in a big city for the first time, you’re going to be writing up a storm. The thing I found incredible about Los Angeles was the flagrant inequality. You’d be on the Sunset Strip with people dangerously close to attacking you for money while all these Rolls-Royces were going by. You just feel like everybody’s insane there. No one really has any values. They just make up a little story to act out, and that’s their life,” Exene told Rolling Stone.
