B.B. King, who is the most prominent blues musician of all time, has passed away at the age of 89. King was pretty much synonymous with blues music over the last 60 years, and became the genre’s greatest and most well-known ambassador.

He loved taking the stage and did not stop playing live until recently, when his failing health simply made it impossible for him to perform any longer.

He was suffering from a variety of health problems, and coupled with the fact that he was a diabetic and of advancing age, King was living at home under hospice care when he died.

King played nearly 20 years to exclusively black audiences throughout the 1940s and 1960s, before garnering more widespread success. King has collaborated with musicians from every imaginable genre, including Carlos Santana, U2, Eric Clapton and many more.

His attorney confirmed for the press that he died peacefully in Las Vegas on Thursday.
