Superstar Rihanna has been tapped to voice the lead role of the first black lead in an upcoming 3D animated movie from Dreamworks.

The movie is titled Home.

Riri will portray Tip, a teenage tomboy who finds and befriends a group of aliens.

The movie is based on a children’s book The True Meaning of Smekday from 2007, by the author Adam Rex.

The comedy centers on a confident alien race called Boov, who take over the planet with the intent to reorganize it.

They practically exhaust their resources in their failed attempts to find themselves a new home, until seemingly almost by accident they discover our planet.

Their new discovery leads to Boov taking over the planet that we call home with all human race relocated except for little Tip (Rihanna), who manages to avoid capture by the Boov and befriends a banished creature by the name of Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons).

Rihanna will join The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin, who will all have a voice engagement in the movie.

Her other responsibilities are to curate an album featuring the songs from the movie. The movie is set to hit U.S. cinemas in November 2014.

Rihanna looks as if she is trying to turn to different projects after taking the music world by storm. If this movie is successful, and it should be, there might be a chance that we see more movie work from her in the future.

Perhaps, she could even take to the screen herself and try out acting for a while. That would be the next obvious step if her voice-over career turns out well and she is then persuaded to get into the movie business
