It took more than 10 months to happen, but finally, an album has gone platinum in 2014. Taylor Swift’s new album “1989” is not only the first and only album of the year to move more than one million units, it is the first album to do so in just one week since 2002, when Eminem released “The Eminem Show.”

According to the latest sales figures, Swift sold 1.287 million copies in the first week.

The fact that’s it’s the lone platinum album of the year says a lot about the floundering music industry, but it also says tons about Swift and her current popularity.

The news comes days after Swift announced that she was pulling her albums from all free streaming services such as Spotify, showing that Swift is a true advocate against music piracy and wants to set an example for other artists when it comes to protecting her music.
