System Of A Down Goes To Armenia For The First Time Ever

System of a Down embarked on their Wake Up the Soul Tour earlier this month to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In order to show their respect, the band, made up entirely of Armenian-American musicians, performed their very first show ever in Armenia.

They played for free in Yerevan’s Republic Square for nearly two-and-a-half hours and delivered a total of 37 songs. Here’s what frontman Serj Tankian said in an interview with Rolling Stone prior to the concert:

“In Armenia, our status is unparalleled. I don’t want to use any monikers like the Beatles or anything, but it’s a unique kind of thing. So we want to go there and play for the people, which we’ve never done as System of a Down.”
