The 27 club is an infamous group of extremely talented musicians who all met their end at 27 years of age. While some members are among the greatest and most influential artists of all time, others didn’t live long enough to make it really big in the music industry. These tragic deaths at such a young age were often caused by drug or alcohol overdose, although some were more wicked, caused by suicide, murder, or accident. Here are 21 members of the forever 27 club who will never be forgotten:

1. JIMI HENDRIX

Pioneering guitarist, singer and songwriter for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jimi Hendrix is still considered rock’s greatest guitar player, as well as one of the most influential musicians of all time.

He set the world on fire at the Monterey International Pop Festival in June 1967, where he played his guitar behind his back, with his teeth, and later set it alight and smashed it. During his short recording career, Hendrix became a living legend, jammed with just about every respectable guitarist of his generation and toured almost constantly. As a result, Jimi changed the genre forever and went down in history as one of the most celebrated artists who ever lived.

On September 18, 1970, Jimi was found unresponsive in his girlfriend’s apartment and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the coroner’s report, he suffocated on his own vomit after overdosing on sleeping pills. He was 27 years old at the time of his death.
